Both of them could have lived

Okay at the end when they find the piece of wood and only Rose gets on I think that if they had tried a little bit harder that they both could have gotten on and they could have sat up or something.

I have to agree with you Amy. But I think Titanic wouldn't be Titanic anymore if Jack lived.

That is very right, and there is a lot of speculation of wether or not Rose could have actually survived in that freezing water. A lot of people use the famous excuse "It's just a movie," but the fact is, IT REALLY HAPPENED! Six people survived the icy sea that night, therefore, it wasn't "Just a Movie."

Another thing to think about is the fact that had Rose stayed on the lifeboat initially, that piece of wood would have been waiting there just for them. Of course, that would have robbed the movie of one of its most poignant moments

oops.....fix that above.....i meant to say that the piece of wood would have been waiting there just for *him*...then they could have been reunited on the Carpathia, and the lots of babies she was going to have could have been by him......

Well, I guess you can look at it any way you want. But they both could have lived in many ways, but it just wasn't meant to be. For one thing, it would have destroyed the ending. They could have done a lot of things to prevent the death. 1)Rose could have given Jack the Life Jacket after she got on the wood to keep him from having his torso in the water. 2)Rose could have stayed in the life boat and Jack could have had the piece of wood to himself. 3)The two could have avoided her mother and Cal completely after the iceberg hit so he woldn't get framed with the neclace in the first place. 4) They could have stayed on the deck the whole thime after the berg hit, so they'd be the first canidates to jump a boat. 5)They could have dressed jack up in one of her dresses so he could get in one of the later boats disguised as a woman (some men on the Titanic actually did this to get on a boat)... Do you see where I'm going with this?
