Hands as a symbol

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

I have just seen the movie for the third time and noticed that hands seem to play an important role ( Rose's hand in the car, Jack's hands sketching Rose, Jack's drawing of a Parisian lady's hands, Jack handing the note to Rose, etc.) .What symbol, if any, does this portray in the overall scope of the film?

the reason only jack touches rose's bare hands is because only jack can touch rose's heart, only jack can touch rose's sole.. the hands are a window into the true nature of the person, and this is why jack liked to draw hands, becase he "sees people." jack sees the heart and sole of the person. he reached out and touched rose.. consequently, it all corosponds with celine's song "My Life Will Go on"... "love can touch us one time and last for a life time, and never let go till were gone. love was when i loved you, one true time, i hold you." hold, touch. hold and touch what? her bare hands, her naked sole, and it lasted for a lifetime..

I too agree with Jordan. that was a brilliant answer. I also know, of an extraordinary site with all different kinds of symbolism from the movie. When i went to this site, it made me view the movie in a whole different way. It is truly amazing. http://www.angelfire.com/oh/banatiandragon/titanic2.html you should definately check it out.

Also, the hands of the clock are significant. Rose and Jack's time together is minimal at best considering the fate of the Titanic. Because they were able to "connect" as only so few can, that precious time endured for a lifetime. Near the end of the movie Rose and Jack run into Mr. Andrews in the dining room. He is adjusting the hands of the clock which is sitting on the mantle. The Titanic made its precise mark in time and I believe this movie did also.

I agree, but, uh Jordan? The song is called "My HEART Will Go On."
