Statue of Liberty

Did the Statue of Liberty light up in 1912 as shown at the end of the movie? I thought those lights were part of the 1980's renovation.

I know I'm getting into picky questions. I just notice these things on repeated viewings. I still love this film more with each viewing.

I don't even think the Statute of Liberty in the movie was real. I remember reading somewhere that the scene was filmed at the studio in Mexico.

The statue was computer-generated, then composited into the shot. (It sure *does* look real, doesn't it?)
