There is a scene of rose showing her tatoo on the left arm, i think, How it4s possible that a high class girl at that time, would have a tatoo? Was that a mistake or am i wrong?

I saw the movie a few times, and don't remember seeing a tatoo on her once. Which scene are you referring to?

Thank you!! I could have sworn that I saw a tattoo on Rose's upper arm, but it was gone in the very next shot of her arm. I'm checking that out next time.

As far as i know Kate Winslet does not have a tatoo. The only time i noticed anything on her arm was when she fell overboard and jack was trying to pull her back up. Though in that scene I think it was just part of her dress or hair or something.

The "tatoo" you're referring to was a piece of black lace from her dress. My sister noticed it the first time we went and saw it, so we paid close attention the second time, and yes at first glance it looks like a tatoo, but it's just a piece from her dress.

What scene are you referring to? I would like to look next time.

The scene where Rose is hanging of the stern of the boat, getting ready to jump. If I remember correctly, she has already stepped over the railing and you see the back of her from Jacks point of view, just as he's about to approach her.

I have discussed this with other people. yes it is a Tatoo! It is not part of her dress. As it does not move. It is quite obvious. I noticed it the first time I saw the film and also wondered if the character would have a tatoo. Also if you watched 'The Making of Titanic' special there is a scence showing her at the end of the ship before she jumps and it is obvious in that shot. It is not part of the dress as there is skin exposed all around the tatoo and nothing obstructing it. Check it out disbelievers. It is a tatoo!

Can I just ask, If that is true then why in the world would they put it in there? I mean James Cameron seems like he put in a lot of effort to make everything historicly correct and in the rest of the film Rose does not have a tattoo. Also Kate winslet doesn't have a tattoo or if she does she covered it up with some serious make-up at the Golden Globe awards.

Well, why couldn't Rose have a tatoo? They did exist then and maybe she was a little bit wild! I believe I saw a tatoo on Kate when she appeared on the Tonight show.

I'll be damned! Thanks for the info.

I read an article on Kate, and she is rather trendy. I believe she wished to get a tatoo, but it would interfere with certain casting roles, such as Rose, Ophelia, etc. Therefore, as the article stated, she refrained from tatooing and wild body piercing (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I'll be damned! Thanks for the info. I just couldn't bring myself to believe that it was a tatoo!

-- Caron (bianchi@iserv.net), January 29, 1998.

The tatoo on Roses arm is merely a piece of lace from the dress she is wearing.Nothing important!!!

-- Danielle (bayless@shorenet.net), February 06, 1998.

I thought I saw the tatoo also. It's at the part where Rose is about to jump off of the boat, when Jack is talking to her. Hmmmm.

I thought I saw it also but when I read magazines and stuff ( on "titanic" and the actors and related stuff) and Kate Winslet does NOT have a tatoo! it might have just been a part of her costume!

Good question though!

It was not lace, but rather a bead that dangled down from the edge of the sleeve. Both sides of the dress had them. It was dangling from a tiny thread that held each bead in a sort of invisible "net". This was common on dresses from that time.

I'm sure it's a joke but at another place on this site they were talking about the tatoo and gave a site that has the tatoo. I went to it, you won't believe what it is... http//members.xoom.com/Vocalise/capcrnch.gif (Make sure you capitalize the V!)

Anyway, I saw the scene and it sure does look like a tatoo, you can see skin all around, but maybe it's just the dangling bead thing. I hope so, especially after seeing the picture!

BELIEVE ME,it is NOT a tatoo.Do you honestly think that James Cameron would spend 200 million dollars on this movie, and pay so much attention to the tiniest details, but mess it all up by failing to cover Kate's tatoo???? I,personally, doubt it!!!

-- Ana (sirabion@bruin.edu), February 19, 1998.

It's definitely not a tatoo. I saw the movie again over the weekend, and I payed close attention during the scene where Rose threatens to jump overboard. I saw the lace or bead or whatever blow in the wind once, so I know it's not a tatoo. Since we ending up sitting in the first row of the theater, I had a pretty good vantage point!

I do not believe the alleged tatoo actually exists. Supposedly, it is on her left arm and is visible in the attempted suicide scene. I agree with some of the other contributors who have written that it was a piece of lace from her dress. Also, in the corset-tying scene, Rose's entire left arm is clearly visible and there is no tatoo.
