Fifth Officer Lowe {actor Ioan Gruffudd}

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

Since I have been doing reading on the Titanic in the past year, Fifth Officer Lowe has continued to fascinate me. From what I've heard and read, he was quite an interesting person to be around, to say the least. Rather outspoken, excitable, humorous. The man was a hero, the only one to go back to look for survivors in the water. Anyway, while watching the movie, I noticed that the actor who portrayed Lowe was very good looking. My friends think I'm crazy, but did anyone else think this? The actor who played him was named Ioan Gruffudd, but I can't find anything else on him. Does anyone know anything about this actor?

Anyway, cute or not, I think he did a wonderful job, even though I wished he had gotten a little more screen time, out of all the classic Lowe moments that occured before she went down. All the officers did great, and I really enjoyed their performances. Wasn't Jonathan Phillips the perfect image of Lightoller? For me, the officers were the most convincing actors in the whole movie, aside from Victor Garber.

Annie :) :) :)

Response to Fifth Officer Lowe

I watched a National Geographics special about Titanic which showed a ton of pictures from the actual crew and some of the 1st class people. Based on that, one can say that the casting job done for the film was absolutely perfect. Captain Smith, John Jacob Astor, the Straus couple, etc. were all practically a mirror image of their historical counterparts. The lone exception was Kathy Bates, who is a little more heavy-set than the real Molly Brown. But her face is similar, and we all know what a great job she did. Enough rants from me. I recommend the National Geographics video, and I know Blockbuster Video has it. Check it out.

Annie, you're not crazy. I noticed him too. (It was impossible not to, since his boat is the only one in the movie that goes back for survivors.) I've tried to find some info on him and some of the actors who played minor parts but it's really difficult. Even finding anything on Victor Garber, who played Thomas Andrews, yields only a filmography at best. The most I found on Ioan Gruffudd is that he was in a BBC production of "Poldark." I hope that helps a little. Hopefully, his work in Titanic will bring more work to a lot of these fine actors. Good luck to you in your search and if you find anything, don't hesitate to e-mail me.

Annie, you are so not crazy. In my opinion , he was cutest when Danny Nucci and leo were geting on the ship, and he was asking them if they'd been "inspected". i downloaded a picture of him off the internet if anyone wants one.

If you want to see more of Ioan you can tune in to A & E on the rest of the month to see him in "Horatio Hornblower" It started April, 4 and will be seen on three more Sunday nights. I hope that this will help. I too found that he stood out in "Titanic." He does even better in "Hornblower."

Ioan Gruffudd is only the hottest actor in England right now, and in America. After starring in "Horatio Hornblower", half of the women are going nuts of over his good looks. There is so much about him on the internet. Try the search engine Metacrawler at www.go2net.com, type in his name, and it will give you lists of links.

Annie, i totally agree with you about Ioan. I'm writting a movie right now that hopefully will so be in production. I'm on the actor hunt, and watched 'Horatio Hornblower'. I was blown away by his acting skills and contacted my director about it imidiatly. (Hopefully) he can come and audition for it. I am impressed by all this feedback about him, and hopefully I can help and make Ioan Gruffudd a houshold name in America. e-mail me anymore information you get on him, and we will keep in touch.
