Does anyone know how to electronically set off the FT-1's shutter? I tried shorting all kinds of pins together and came up with nothing.

If you have a remote cord the release is easy - simply strip the wires in the cord and short green to white then contact these to the cable braid to release. If you havent a cord it is a little harder to explain. Looking at the camera from the front, the index pin at the bottom is your reference. number the pins clockwise 1 to 5. To release join pins 4 and 5 (the braid on the cord)then join pins 2 and 3 together (green and white on the cord)then connect these two to the 4/5 (braid) pins to release.

A while back I purchased a very short shutter release cable for my FT-1. It is all of about a foot long. Can that cable be spliced? What type of cable should be used for the extension? If this can be done, to what distance can the cable be safely extended? Thanks.

I know it's been a long time since you posted it, but thanks a bunch for the info on the pinout for the FT-1 cable release. I've scoured the net, and yours is the only one I found.
