Or should I just hightail it with some solar panels?

IMHO, the 64 million $ question is this: If you were in charge of the intergalactic power grid (or some chunk of it), what would you do to keep it up and running if you knew the computers attached to it were going to malfunction in the middle of the winter, two years from now?

(This question posed from the perspective that the Reality is it will not be possible to remediate all computer systems power generation, transmission and distribution currently depends on. Lengthy, thoughtful, detailed, e-mailed responses encouraged and appreciated... Thank-you, BD)

To really have a chance to survive, if the power grid goes down, I would try to find a group of like minded people and pool material and financial resources and your different skills. In a group of around 40 people you have the needed manpower for security, food production and for generating protective shelter for the group. In addition to solar power, I would consider wood fueled, steam powered, electrical generation. Good luck to you and your family. Bill
