About the STREAMING MEDIA ART Forum

greenspun.com : LUSENET : STREAMING MEDIA ART : Policy
This Streaming Media Art Online Discussion Group will be conducted throughout the month of September 2000 by NOT STILL ART. NYS video art organizations, artists and all interested parties are invited to participate. The culture, technology, and legalities of distribution of electronic motion art will be discussed in online Q&A sessions. This allows participants to ask and/or respond to specific questions through e-mail, which are archived online for future reference. New York State public and private organizations have supported electronic motion art from the inception of the art form. Preservation and distribution have always been pressing issues. The digital environment of the internet has the promise to make international distribution of media transparent, thus preserving media art through wide dissemination. Some of the issues to be addressed include: quality of compressed video, bandwidth, server access, encryption and copyright. Additionally, Not Still Art will maintain a website for the discussion group where relevant links will be posted. The Streaming Media Art Online Discussion Group is made possible with a Media Action Grant from Media Alliance, with public funds from the New York State Council for the Arts. Not Still Art is a sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts.

How this System Works

This bboard software was written by Philip Greenspun and hosted for free by him started in 1995. Anyone could come in and create a forum and moderate the discussion. Most of the thousands of forums on this server were and are publicly searchable by Google and other Web indices.
