Note that Alexanders' rule was far from complete, since he did not take too much time finishing off all forms of resistance against him, but rushed to reach as far as he could. The (Modern) countries which were by more than 50% under Alexanders' rule are as follows:

Greece (60%), Turkey (100%), Syria (100%), Lebanon (100%), Israel (Palestine) (100%), Jordan (100%), Egypt (80%), Iraq (Mesopotamia) (100%), Kuweit (100%), Iran (Persia) (100%), Afghanistan (80%), Pakistan (80%)

Alexander had at least two children from two different wives, the First was Hercules by Barsine. He was assassinated, probably by orders of Olympiad, his own grandmother, who favoured the official heir of the throne, Alexander IV, who was an infant that was mothered by Roxanne, Roxanne, Olympiad & Alexander IV were all assassinated by Cassander, who married the sister of Alexander the Great, Thessalonika. His dynasty was broken when all of the other diadohoi (successors) of Alexander the Great decided to avenge the extermination of the legitimate descendant of Alexander the Great and established Demetrios ("O Poliorkitis" - the Besieger) to the throne of Macedonia.

I do not know how much one can leader for his troops' actions, but the Macedonians did quite a lot as every conqueror of that time and much later has done. Nevertheless, Alexander was inclined not to allow his troops to take advantage of the conquered people, although that was not always possible.

The Macedonians under Alexander destroyed the ancient city of Thebe in Greece, although it is rather unclear if Alexander himself took the decision or if his troops went too far. Nevertheless, when the destruction was already underway we know that he ordered that all buildings should be destroyed except of the religious structures and the home of the poet Pindar.

Then the Macedonians destroyed Tyre after a long siege of 6 months, and Alexander did not ever think of preventing his troops this time. The religious structures were also respected this time, but the city was deserted for long after that.

Finally the Macedonians destroyed the Royal city of Persepolis, by an order taken by Alexander while he was drunk, and probably inspired by an Athenian mistress of his, Fryni. When he saw the result of his actions he ordered the fire to be put down instantly, to no avail.

The Macedonians decimated several encampments in modern day Afghanistan and Pakistan, because the local populations resisted fiercely to his troops. In one of his sieges against the Malli, he almost got killed, and his troops avenged his near death accordingly.

Alexander assassinated quite a lot of his own comrades either becase they were conspiring against him, or worse, because he was misled to believe that they were disputing his leadership, and he was VERY STRICT against anybody who suspected to have turned against him. Many suspect that he was poisoned by some of his own who were afraid for their own life, or simply disliked his new habits.

Alexander did not exactly sign peace treaties, but he used to restore to power the rulers whom he subdued, and tried a lot to rule by consent and diplomacy. His attempts were not always successful and he run more than once back to the areas that he had conquered in order to re-establish his rule. Nevertheless, policies like these tended to increase his standing amongst the conquered people.

Alexander had a son, Heracles, by his concubine Barsine. He had another son, Alexander IV, by his wife, Roxane. Both sons were killed before reaching majority by Alexander's Macedonian successor Cassander (not too sure if he killed Heracles as well, but I do know that he had both Roxane and Alexander IV executed).

Alexander had kids but they all died very young, as a result no heir. I think the person who responded before me (the one who can't spell) has got his cleopatras mixed up. The cleopatra who ruled egypt was a decendent of Alexanders general ptolomy. She ruled a few hundred years after Alexander had died so I doubt she was his sister.
