STOP and think-- read the column again, because the point made is NOT that those sins are ok or no big deal.

Good point, jas. Most powerful people find it very convenient to think that the churches' proper sphere is personal sexual behaviour and nothing else. Certainly a lot of fundamentalist leaders go along with this. Our own bishops do not. Unfortunately though, whenever they make a statement about economic justice, oppression of the poor, stewardship of nature, war, handguns, violence, respect for others' religions, etc, the media "bury" it or don't report it at all. But as soon as they mention that magic word "sex", it's front page news. And the average person who never goes to church reads it and says "Isn't it terrible how the church is obsessed with sex?"
