Diadr, he didn't really reunify the Greeks, instead he only unified them for the first time(But this wasn't voluntary). He forced the other Greek powers to submit to him using force. This was needed in order for him to go and conquer Persia, which was his main objective.

He was only later a charasmatic character for the Greeks. Modern Greeks look at him as the unifier of the Greeks. He helped dismantle the powerful city states(which always caused problems for other less powerful groups). This dismanteling of the Power Houses helped the Greeks to put asside their arrogance(especially the Athenians and the Spartans who were the 2 strongest of the Greek city-states.)This allowed for the different Greek speaking groups to intermix more with one another, thus leading to better relationships between them. Of course there were always some people who wanted power, so peace never lasted to long. It was when the Romans started coming into Greece that the Greeks united for the final time, until the Greeks people gained their independance in 1821, from the Turks. Alexander was used as an example of how the Greeks should strive to be in order to free themselves of 2000 years of oppression. If you would like any specific details please fell free to e-mail me and I will be glad to help you out more.
