thinking of buying a film scanner that can produce relatively good result so anyone mind telling me what brand to buy?? is my budget 500 dollars enough to get one that work reasonably well?

Whew...here I am for the first time in ages, and this question pops up (That's what I get for old-fashioned "surfing").
I recently (a week ago) bought a Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400, which at the moment is the highest-resolution (5400dpi, hence the model designation) 35mm desktop scanner available. The scanner has too many useful features to list here, but it's enough to say that, at a street price as low as US$800, this scanner will be at or near the top of the heap for serious - or even frivolous - 35mm scanning work.
