Hello Jason

If you will be there for that long there are apartments that are not too expensive where I had stayed last winter: Ciel et Logis 92 Place de Chamonix Sud 74400 Chamonix Mt Blanc T: +33 (0)4 50 55 95 04 F: +33 (0)4 50 53 16 32 www.chamonixsud.com

I have been there many times, although mostly in the summer. There is great ice climbing on Mer de Glace but the best thing for you to do is to go to one of the guide offices and maybe hook up with a guide as they know it all! I have used the guide office "Compagnie des guides de Chamonix Mont Blanc" - they are located right by the church (the only one in town)and have found them to be excellent.

A couple of great routes are "consmiques ridge" (snow and rock, 15 pitches at 5.9) and traversee de l'aiguille a entreves (a rock ridge from the Italian side)I did these in the summer so I am not sure what they would be like, but keep them in mind, they are super!!

Hope this helps Have a great time...I am envious!! Sylvie
