I disagree with Cassander as a general since he was the son of Lysimachus. Clitus, Alexander's best friend was also a companion and one of his finest generals. Alexander killed him in a drunken rage.

Don't forget the general Parmenio, he was perhaps the best general under Alexander and he fought under Alexander himself. Alexander had him killed after Parmenio's son Philotas, a companion, was executed for treason. Hope this helps a little more.

Hephaistion was Alexanders best friend and general but he died.
