The best way to answer this question is to do some reading yourself and draw your own conclusions. As you read, you will discover that each author creates the Alexander he or she hopes to find.

Start by going to an encyclopaedia and looking up "Alexander the Great". Then, read both extant and modern authors- Arrian, Plutarch, Curtius, Green, Fox, Badian, Hammond, Bosworth, Zimmerman, Stoneman, etc.

Doing this groundwork yourself might lead you to become interested in this person to the extent that you find yourself fascinated by the ancient world beyond Alexander..and you can develop your own conclusions
