A few of Alexander's most famous contemporaries were Aristotle, Demosthenes, and Diogenes.

Aristotle tutored Alexander and in return Alexander sent him large numbers of specimens and artifacts from Asia. If Aristotle wrote his opinion of Alexander, I haven't run across it. Chances are good he respected his young pupil.

Demothenes spent most of his career violently denouncing Alexander's father, Phillip of Macedon, and rallying Athens against him. "Tyrant" was one of the nicer things he called Phillip. Demosthenes didn't care much for Phillip's son, either.

Diogenes didn't like Alexander, either. But then, Diogenes didn't like much of anyone -- except himself. Diogenes had a very high opinion of himself.
