I take it that time period is rather artificial. Poe's reputation was defamed and under a cloud for twenty years or so afyter his death in 1849. The revival sponsored by his friends preserved his works but fell short of removing the stain of slander and lowering of his reputation. Still his influence in pioneering certain forms of literary criticism and new genres was unmistakable and his works and theories inspired indiviudal artists cutting against the utilitarian grain. In Europe his reputation soared among the French poets and came back to America via symbolsim and many authors of stories like Verne, Stevenson, Swedenborg etc. And yes, you have to do your own research since Poe's influence was somewhat repressed in the good old US until the 20th Centruy.
