Nikon Coolpix 5700 vs Minolta DiMAGE 7hi : LUSENET : Photography Singapore : One Thread

Anyone have any views on which is better? I've heard the Minolta is faster but I've got a Nikon F808 and am a kind of a "brand" person. All feddback will be appreciated. Thanks.

Nikon digital cams have better range of accessories than Minolta> Though i am a Minolta user for more than 5 yrs, if i were to choose between these 2, i will choose Nikon

I my opinion brand buyers get taken more easily. I am looking at similar cameras, incl Sony F717. Olympus C5050 is in the same class, easier to use, excellent macro and less cost - with only a 3 x optical zoom.

I have use both cameras. I found that the Minolta 7Hi is much better than Nikon coolpix 5700. Even the Minolta 7i is also much better than it.

1) Lens

Minolta 28 - 200 Nikon 35 - 280

Very wide in minolta

2) Filters / additional lenses

Minolta supports. Nikon does not even have threads in front of lens.

3) Zoom control

Ring based in Minolta, motorized in Nikon. One reason enough to buy the Minolta.

4) Manual focus

Minolta has it through a ring. Nikon does not.

5) Features

Minolta beats it hands down.

6) REsponse time

Minolta beats it hands down.

7) Buffer

64MB in Minolta. Beats Nikon hands down.

8) EVF

Nikon is better (IMHO).

9) Noise

Nikon is better.

Steve's digicam and dpReview have good comparisons of both. Minolta dimage 7hi vs Nikon 5700 would give you more details.

IF it was Minolta dimage 7 vs Nikon 5700, I would have gone 5700 way. But Minolta dimage 7hi is a way way way better camera, even given 8 & 9, value for money, even though it is $150 more.
