How to burn a 800MB CD on Nero Burning Rom

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Ok well i baught 8 800MB CD-R But on nero it shows up as 702MB??? How do i change it

-- Th-A9 (DTS7@MSN.COM), December 01, 2002

Answers

You can't. 800 MB (or 90 min.) CD-Rs do not conform to CD standards. Nero will always recognize them as being 80 minute (700 MB) CD-Rs. You can burn them though. Just set Nero to overburn to something like 90 minutes and 30 seconds and when Nero warns you that you are overburning and asks if you want to continue, say yes.

-- Root (root@yahoo.moc), December 02, 2002.

just did what you said. still refuses to burn the CD. strange

-- js (john_smith@email.si), January 14, 2003.

my Nero sees the CD as 10 Min - 88 MB ( nero supplied with burner 5.5.8)!

Go figure - research contimuing

-- Dave Johnson (dj2@bigpond.net.au), February 25, 2003.

My Nero burner doesn't even ask, if I would like to overburn the CD or not, it just denies the CD and asks for a bigger one, even if I have just inserted a fresh 800 MB CD... Any suggestions?

-- Viljar Vaht (gilgalad@hot.ee), February 27, 2003.

go FILE -> PREFERENCES -> EXPERT FEATURES and tick "enable overburn..."

Cheers, Ralf

PS: sometimes it helps to read the manual :-)

ABOUT BURNING 90 min CD’S QUESTION: Using the latest Nero 5.5.9.0 to burn 90 min (800MB) CD's is no problem when burning Audio CD’s (cda format) just overburn, but I can't do it with a DATA CD, Nero just can't recognise the 800 MB CD, it says it's 700 MB disk. ANSWER You have to change the ISO settings to Mode2/XA which will allow you to burn 800MB. The Mode1 has got a 700MB limit. You also have to set the overburn-option on, and in the burning dialog box where you choose the burning speed you also have to change burning method into "disc-at-once".

-- Vipe (no-reply@no-email.net), March 02, 2003.

Well, yes it is always easy to say how. Although I use Nero 5.5.10.7, I can't succeed. I set the mode2/XA and the overburn option on BUT in ISO mode it won't allow to choose whether I want to use Track-at-once or disk-at-once mode. And so no 'Overburn-question' button :(

-- Viljar (gilgalad@hot.ee), March 03, 2003.

Set disk at once.

-- Roland Ku (abc@defg.com), March 04, 2003.

OK, I tried the Overburn with the wizard mode it works fine. But in the Expert tab along with "enabling overburn" you have to SET THE MINUTES to 90. A no-brainer, I thought.

-- dudeman (dude@dude.dude), March 07, 2003.

I have ner 559 and I set the enable overburn tab as well as the 90 min one, but for me still doesn´t work. Do you have any idea why? The curious thing is that a month ago it was working fine without changing any setting. Thanks

-- Lucia (lucyyus@yahoo.com), March 10, 2003.

I have ner 559 and I change the mode, set the enable overburn tab as well as the 90 min one, but for me still doesn´t work. Do you have any idea why? The curious thing is that a month ago it was working fine without changing any setting. Thanks

-- Lucia (lucyyus@yahoo.com), March 10, 2003.

You're sure you haven't activated "Start Multisession"? Multisession disables the Disc-At-Once (DAO) option and sets it to Track-At-Once (TAO). First set "No Multisession", then edit options to allow overburn, then select "Disc-At-Once" and confirm overburning when Nero asks for it after checking the CDR at the beginning of the burning progress.

-- sToRm (me@online.com), March 10, 2003.

Try to uncheck file/preferences/ Check for correct disc format before burning. SF

-- Stratofun (fake@mail.add), March 17, 2003.

Always set nero with "disc at once" in the burning window, it was the same for me and then it worked. also don't check "multisession"

Good luck

-- jacques jacques (chooseaname@hotmail.com), March 18, 2003.

I hate to be the newby in all this. I was wondering where i might purchase some 800 mb data CD-R's and what brand is the best to use. I will be storing video items in divx format and was hoping someone might clue me in as to the where to's and what for's in this area. thanks a bunch. JR

-- Jeremy (moshdancer@yahoo.com), April 10, 2003.

ok, in the burning window called "write cd" (not the wizard but the other one) this is what i have :

Info : you don't care

Multisession : "No Multisession" is ticked

Iso : "ISO Level 1" is ticked and "Mode 2 / XA" is ticked too and also "ISO 9660" and "Joliet" and you can also tick (if you want) "Allow pathdepth of more than 8 directories" and "Allow more than 255 characters in path"

Label : you don't care

Dates : you don't care

Misc : you don't care

Burn : "Write" and "Finalize CD" are ticked and write speed is up to you and "write method" should be set on "Disc-At-Once"

Now you're ready for overburning, just say yes when you're asked if you really want to overburn your CD but do it at your own risk!!!

it works very fine for me with my old Yamaha SCSI 6-4-16 and Nero 5.5.6.4.

Have some nice toasts...

-- Bastien (slyme@free.fr), April 13, 2003.

well of course if you want this to work don't forget to "enable overburn 'dic at once' ..." in file preferences with 90 min 30 seconds... :)

-- Bastien (slyme@free.fr), April 13, 2003.

Its working now here.

What I did was: menu --> preferences --> expert --> overburning ( 90 min)

Then I choose DAO/96 for burning not DAO by DAO/96. Now after a message box (asking overburn bla bla) it works.

I was trying to burn an ISO.

I hope it helps you out.

Hope this helps...

-- Stuart (something@somewhere.com), September 15, 2003.

I tried all the solutions written before, and none worked ! Nero still rejecting the CD and asking for a bigger capacity CD-R.

BUT...

I tried the "Nero CD-DVD Speed" tool and I did an overburn test.

After the test, Nero will purpose to overburn 800MB.

-- Ludovic Perard (ludovic@lasecte.com), September 22, 2003.

you can try to burn cd-r with800mb using new nero expres 6.0 by made the correct settings on the program.on expert features set for enable overburning and put over 90 minutes on the minutes box.then try to write the cd like that.you will be ask if you want to overburn, then click yes.you will have to be verry carefull to put no more than 90 minutes because you can destroy the cd-r.

-- actibild (actibild@personal.ro), September 26, 2003.

Hey guys i had all the problems u said i faced them all and now i am down to THIS: 800mb overburn on DAO/96 starts but! it stops on 702mb, on dao asks if i want to overburn and i press yes with all the experts parameters etc. fixed and i get the msg: could not perform start of disc-at-once. and it doesnt start at all. At TAO i cant overburn.... I have a spindle of 25*800mb cds and i watch them for 3 days....help please...

-- Jim (dimitrisbatsis@hotmail.com), October 16, 2003.

I did those thing described and it worked when I didn't use the wizard. However, the burning session ended with "burn failure" or "burning failed" (something like that) but the mpeg-file on the CD worked and I can't seem to find anything "failed" about it... oh well

-- Tore Ramstad Urke (mofo2com@hotmail.com), October 22, 2003.

Okay, i av the same problem as some one above i bought 800 mb cd-r's and changed all da settings for it to overburn, the file i want to put on disc is 749 mb and it burns fine, but when i try playing it, it is basically nakerd, can any one reply to me and tell me how to correct this problem ?????

-- Greg Wharf (Wharfy11@hotmail.com), October 23, 2003.

i bought a 25*800mb cdr, i failed on the 2 first cds.. then i read this forum (worked) .. I enabled overburn on expert features and put 90 min and 30 sec there. Then i open the compilation info, and put multisession to no multsession. And in the ISO tab i put on format: Mode2/XA. In the Burn tab i set to disc-at-once and i set write speed to 32x, instead of 48x (just to be sure^^). IT WORKED !

the file was a 700mb avi .. so it wanst realy a overburn but it worked after all the changes.. didnt before..

-- toregil (skru@start.no), October 26, 2003.

the only way to make it work was making an image of the files mine got to 753 MB and then burn that image

sucha charm even my MP3 player reads the whole disk THANKS TO ALL

Download nero 6.0 and enable overburning... very simple

-- Zobbi barra (123@hotmail.com), November 18, 2003.

I 've Nero 6, although it wasn't so easy to burn 800mb Cd's. It works when a)click No multisession b)Change the ISO format to Mode 2/XA c)click Finalize CD d)write method :Disc-at-once e)Go to File/Preferences/General and change the Red maker to 99.0.0 (thats for the 850mb cd's also) f)Again in File/Preferences/Expert Features click Enable overburn and change the maximum cd length to 99.0.0 as well g) THEN HAVE FUN & GOOD TOASTS

-- Costas (katharmatideus@aol.com), November 29, 2003.

Well I have a similar doubt. Is it possible to creat multi-session on an overburn CDR with Nero? My Toshiba DVD-Combo always reads 800MB as 700MB.

-- David Yu (lohyu@sinamail.com), December 05, 2003.

After reading everyone's troubles and getting more and more frustrated with nero, and after d/loading 2 new versions (5.5.10.54 - which didn't work), i finally got nero 5.5.10.7 to work at last. All the settings as mentioned by users above and hey presto - burning oversize cds in now no problem.

-- ret (snowsurfa@yahoo.com), December 11, 2003.

You CANNOT change Nero to recognize the drive as an 800MB. It will always see it as 702MB, howver I got my 48X LG Drive to burn a 90min (800MB) CD using these settings (as described by previous feedbacks):

File/Preferences -Yellow marker: 73 min -Red marker: 93 min - Overburning enabled @ 93 min

Edit/Properties -no multisession -iso lev 1; mode 1 -dao -close disk -and other described above

BUT...... you MUST make an image on HDD and then record from that image.

Good Luck!!

I cannot believe this thread is still alive. I never had to burn >700MB CDs, until 2 weeks ago when I was asked by my dad to make copies of an audio CD, which runs slightly over 80mins. My CDRs are all 700MB, so I went out and bought 2 90mins CDRs. Put the blank CDR into the drive, my LiteOn only detected it as 703MB. Fishy. Googled and this page turned up first, read the first few replies, checked my setting,

--> ENABLE OVERBURN --> MAXIMUM CD LENGTH = 90 MINS (at least) --> NO MULTISESSION --> WRITE METHOD = DISC-AT-ONCE/96 (your CD will automatically be finalized at this point)

Setup whatever you need to burn, hit the burn button, Nero will ask if you wanna overburn (NOTE: At this point, your 800MB CD will still show up as only 703MB), say yes and you will have that CD "burnt". :)

I'm actually burning my CD as I'm writing this. :)

Yupe, done with first copy. Played back without any issue (I checked the last 2 tracks.)

Good luck all, and this SHOULD be the last reply. Hopefully this thread will close now. :)

Go to Burn current compilation -> Burn Check Use Multiple recorders Click Burn. You'll see dialog choose recorders Select your recorder. At the bottom of your screen you'll see the firmware of your recorder and if it is supports overburn. If your firmware does not support overburn get the one which does. Hope it helps

-- carol tyrell (bondola@yahoo.com), March 04, 2004.

To burn an ISO image > 703 MB with Nero 6, LG 8400B 40x burner, 1°) Menu File->Settings-> set red marker to 91 min and maximum CD size to 91 min. 2°) Menu Recorder->Burn Image-> (select your .ISO file)and check "Use multiple recorder" 3°) Nero asks for the recorder, choose yours. Then Nero ask you to confirm for the over burn. That's it. If you don't do that, Nero will always reject your CD.

-- WL (walter.lavogiez@online.fr), March 05, 2004.

IN SHORT, THE BEST THING TO DO IS USE COMMON SENSE IN REGARD TO THE SETTINGS. IE A 90 MIN CDR REQUIRES A SETTING OF 90 MIN'S. SO FOR STARTERS ALLOW OVERBURN WHEN PROMPTED, ALSO IF IT IS A VCD TRY BURNING THE IMAGE TO HD THEN BURN FROM THE IMAGE. IT WORKS FOR ME

-- Peter Bishop (plcomfix@iprimus.com.au), March 30, 2004.

does any1 know how to enable 90 min burn for nero 6.0.0.17 ?? :p

-- Carlos Spencer (ryank@xtra.co.nz), April 06, 2004.

Well,I have Nero 6.0.0.28,and the settings which have been mentioned above work for me,i.e.:

a)No multisession b)Change the ISO format to Mode 2/XA c)write method:Disc-at-once/96 d)enable overburn and set it to something like 90-93 minutes.

Now it should work.If you still have trouble, try to consult the sites that I've listed in my above post.

It didn't work for me to. And abvious I tried all kainds of thingsftom this page and aunfortunatly didn't work. And I did the following: 1.I closed the application. 2.Opened Nero B. 3.Set in the the "Preferences - General" Yello marker at 80,0,0 and Red marker at 83,30,0 4.Set in "Preferences - Expert Features" Enable overburn ... to the dimension that you want. 5.Set in "Compilation Info - Multisession" No Multisesion. 6.Set in "Compilation Info - ISO" Mode 2/XA 7.Set in "Compilation Info - Burn" Disk-At-Once 8.Press OK button and good luck. Is at your one risk. You have to ve aware that you can damage your CD burner if you overburn the disk. Will work for sure.

-- A K (csbecken@yahoo.com), June 10, 2004.

OK folks, this is the secret:

Your CD Recorder must support the overburning feature. The Recorder must support this type of media as well. Some recorders support 80min media but will not support 90min or 99min media. You should make sure you have the latest version of Nero, though this is supported from Nero 5.0 and above. And you need to have the latest firmware for your model recorder, as it will contain information to enable overburning, but most importantly, it will contain Read/Write strategies for new CDR and CDRW brand of media and can resolve many issues you may otherwise run into. You MUST burn in Disc-At-Once or Disc-At-Once 96 write mode or you can not Overburn. The multisession mode is not possible, if you want to burn such CDs. You MUST enable overburning in Nero's File - >Preferences -> Expert Features, or if you have Nero Express, do so from More -> Configure - > Expert Features. And you must deactivate/disable Check for correct disc format from within Neros Files -> Preferences -> General, or from within Nero Expresss More -> Configure -> General settings. When you enable Overburning in Expert Features, you should use the below settings based on the size of media you are working with: For 80min media set to - 82:00 For 90min media set to - 89:30 For 99min media set to - 99:54:74

I tried several times following your instructions above and it didn´t work until i read the howto http://www.eximpo-cdr.cz/howto90.html and changed the corresponding parameter in windows register. After do that, i tried again whit the same settings reported above, and it finally worked! Maybe this is the solution for you also!

-- Totio (rocmallop@alum.us.es), June 15, 2004.

Nero simply refused to write more than 700mb until I found an option inside Recording Source Options called "Smart Burn Enabled". When I switched this off and started to burn I received a warning that errors may occur but simply clicked to carrry on regardles. Success!

Here is the complete procedure: 1. Set Advanced Preferencies to Enable overburn Disc-at-once and set Max CD size = 90 min 30 sec. 2. Set General Preferences to Yellow marker 90 min 30 sec 3. Red marker 90 min 30 sec. 4. Set Choose Recorder Options to Smart Burn Enabled to OFF 5. Set Compilation Properties to No Multisession. 6. Set ISO to Mode 2 / XA 7. Set Write method to Disc-at-once/96
