What were the long term effects of his campaigns? socially, politically, economically, religiously, scientifically, educationally What were the reasons history remembers Alexander as such a great leader?

The "driving force" behind Alexander's ambition, as with so much of earthly existance was the nuclear fusion taking place roughly nine light minutes away from Macedonia somewhere within the sun.

The motivation behind his invasion of Asia was pelf. And glory. But most especially pelf, since as the old Macedonian saying has it, "no pelf: no glory."

The long term effects of his campaigns have yet to be fully determined, but I can tell you frankly that the 'long term social, political, emotional, religious, scientific and educational effects' have been all over the map. Literally. Although centered in the Mediterranean.

History remembers Alexander as a great leader because history is a sucker for splashy accomplishments like conquering the known world, even when you die on the following Wednesday.
