By tradition, Macedonians were allowed a high degree of latitude in criticizing their king, so you would be on shaky ground to assume the music critics were too cowed to lambast Alexander if the band stank up the joint.

He only hired musicians who were true 'professionals' in every sense of the word. He'd just give them the downbeat and they would do the rest.
