Hitch-hikers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Troll-free Private Saloon : One Thread

For some reason it occurred to me that I have not seen a hitch-hiker in years (male or female). Have you? Maybe they still exist in college towns. In Madison, there was never a shortage of young lovelies hitching to or from campus.

The Lost Highway

What was your coolest/scariest hitchhiking experience? Is it more dangerous to be a hitchhiker or to be a driver who picks up a hitchhiker?

We always hitched to HS. Only rich kids had cars. School busses were just for rural kids. Got hustled by a "homo" once (the word "gay" was still reserved for poetry).

Lars,

You grew up in a different universe. I would've probably ended up a face on a milk carton, or worse.

Nowadays, I live on the Pacific Flyway of hitchers. We have our residents {hubbing out of here for up to 50 miles to gulleys and backcountry}; seasonals; migrants; and exotics. Just like birds.

Only if I know a hitcher will I pick them up. If they are under 18, they get a free lecture.

Lars:

I had to come home at 10:00 am today. We have some folks coming over tomorrow to share bareequed dead animal parts. I need to prepare.

When I come home, I enter I70 at one exit, pass an exit and leave on the next [about 5 miles] I saw 6 hitch-hikers in that distance. In appearance, they varied from normal to; someone that I would run from in a lighted room. The latter had a sign that said "ride to Indianapolis". Just thought that I would let you know.

Re: a previous thread. Made some burger and dog buns today. They have some chopped porcini and ripe olives with a touch of rosemary. Very good.

Watch out for the last one. ;)))

Best Wishes,,,,,

Zarathustra, I've weakened -

You're making me hungry. What I wouldn't do for a nice olive tapenade slathered over fresh bruschetti right about now.

What is that rumbling sound? . . . Lars?

Don't miss the film Freeway (1996), Kiefer Sutherland, Reese Witherspoon. Dark comedy about young woman hitchhiking.
