SARN - ABBEY NATIONAL

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Repossession : One Thread

I wrote to the Abbey to make a SARN and have received a reply asking for account numbers (which I no longer have). They also want the signature of my estranged partner (as mortgage was in both names). I could probably get her to sign it but I am worried they will then use my address to legal contact her and I do not want to be lumbered with this.

What should I do now ?

Many thanks

Presumably you received some sort of contact letter claiming a shortfall debt so that must have had the account number on it! If it didn't then write back and say you don't know what they are talking about :-) Seriously though, the claim is something that wil affect both you and your ex whether you like it or not. Even if you try to keep her out of it and eventually settle with them (assuming you follow the advice about making the lender prove the claim first etc.) there is nothing to stop them chasing her similarly. Have you told her that the AN are chasing you? I think the honest and human thing to do would be to let her know the score. You don't say when the property was repossessed but if the time to the 12 year limit is relatively short it may be in her interests to try to remain hidden until the end of this period.
