Sprouting already??? Garden Question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I planted my garden on Saturday, with beatiful weather. We had rain on Saturday night, and again on Monday. Stayed warm and somewhat humid thru the nights, as well as the days.

Checked my raised bed garden, and I have several things starting to sprout!!!!! Today is Tuesday.

Several onion sets are up, as well as Kentucky wonder green beans and peas.

Is this normal??? I thought it would take 5-7 days at the earliest!!! Did I do something wrong???

It sure doesn't sound like it! I guess whatever your doing you should keep it up.

Clove, Saturday was a good moon day for planting! Looks like it worked! :)

What is your soil temperature? That is the main reason that seeds germinate in a timely manner or whether they don't. Of course soil moisture and soil contact do matter as well but in a lesser manner. Most seeds germinate better at soil temperatures of 65 to 85 degrees.

The old signs pretty well indicate temperatures. Such as plant corn when oak leaves are the size of a squirrels ear. I think that is it anyway.
