YES! Just received the e-mail from Chuck that he'd removed the password protection temporarily, and I'm GLAD to get back here to look up old things and get nostalgic about the "good old days".

I can't figure out what is going on. I got a message from Chuck saying the new forum went down, go to mission4me etc. and now I came back to the old CS forum and not much is happening here. I conld not get the old, new forum, 2 days ago, I hope things get straightened up for everyones sake.

Boy is this weird or what?! I was just over at the "old" new site and felt like I was in the Twilight Zone! All of a sudden I was back on the posts from 16 May - all the later stuff completely gone!

I sure hope those can be recovered - I had over 60 posts that I was following. Now I'm practically back to the first day. (When I did the "view Your Posts" thing, it only came up with 9 when it should have shown around 50!)

At this point I'm not sure what to do. Anybody out there know?

Yes, I'm checking in. It does seem kind of empty over here without all of the threads that were in place when we last were able to visit.

Maybe we can think of questions to pose or ??? to post.

Glad to see this forum back up and running even if only temporarily.

i'mm gonna post a couple more things to bump this forum back up to the active board, maybee folks aren't finding it here on the 'inactive' board list?

I'm so glad at least we now know what's going on. Poor Chuck, I do feel bad for you, things were moving along so well on the new board, and then it all goes up in smoke (no pun intended!!).

Glad we are all in touch again.

Chuck has kindly put as many explanations in as many places as he can....Lightning hit the new sites' server last night and the damage is so bad it probably will NOT ever function again; in the meantime, Chuck, who works fulltime as many folks do, is searching for yet another permanent site....he also, to accomodate as many folks as possible, did two things...he reopened his own site for posts AND reopened this one, unpassworded, so everyone could have somewhere to post since SOME folks were having problems posting on HIS site originally who have web TV access, etc..this way, even without the newest site, nobody is shut out from forum participation of some kind. He also e-mailed everyone who had registered on the new site to let them know what had happened and the options. Chuck gets my vote as the hardest working person to please the most amount of folks he possibly can....thanks Chuck.

Thanks, Lesley. Here's an update.

We were able to go to the data center that our former provider rented space from, and retrieve a near-complete backup of the site, so we shouldn't lose much data at all. Thank God!

I've procured a new hosting service, and we should be up and running there within 48 hours. Please bear with us!

What a nightmare! And I've got to have our back field fenced by Friday!

Build the fence Chuck, everyone will live through this!!!

-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), May 28, 2002.

How many megabytes of fence are we talking about!!

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), May 28, 2002.

13 acres.

Send a truck Chuck and I'll bring my tractor and post hole digger to dig the post holes. Also have a wire roller/unroller if you are using smooth or barbed wire. Wouldn't work on field type fencing though.

No matter what others say, and though I like the forum here much better, I do appreciate all of the hours you are dedicating to promote the homesteading topic in general. Can't say that I'll ever do more than guest posting just because I don't like registering on any site. Tried that route on Countrylife and City Blues. Deleted both bookmarks last year as I just didn't like signing in to post.

I did post as a guest on Homesteadingtoday this weekend and now it has crashed. Uh sorry!
