Any safe /natural ways to get rid of swarming termites?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have just seen some swarming termites in my kitchen! Years ago ,I had a small termite problem and it cost a fortune to get rid of them and the chemicals used were very toxic- The pest controller told us to leave the house for 48 hrs after having the work done .Now that I am older, I am more cautious about having these type of chemicals in my house and I have a teenager and pets. I want to know if anyone has had any luck eradicating termites using more natural, and safer means ?Thanks !

We also have the swarmers, which means you have the others most likely in your house. We called Terminix, & they do not spray, but put bait traps outside. Nothing that will affect the people or pets. Yes, it's expensive, but they gaurantee to get rid of or get them controlled. It would be worth it to hear what they have to tell you.

Yes please seek a professional or do the work yourself with chemicals suited to termites. Instructions to treat your home should be on the label. It's them or you. Them or your house. You have to make the choice. But definintly you have to fight them. Here's some urls that I hope will answer your questions.

You have to do something and soon. They can destroy your home before you even notice them. Call a exterminater and do it tomorrow. Best of luck.

Call an exterminator and see what options they give you. My Mother-in-law had to have the work on her house. The exterminator used a variety of techniques based on the affected area. I seem to remember that he even froze them in one place. good luck

Somewhere I saw recommended that if you call a professional, get one that uses a trained beagle dog to sniff out all the nests, so he gets them all at once.

We just had this problem too. Our temite man came out and drilled some holes along the foundation of the affected places, then he put some biological control agent in the holes and refilled them. Tadaahh! No more termites. He explained that this agent is more effective that poison and that it worked something like BT works on garden caterpillers. This service cost us $400 and was worth every penny. We have not seen any more evidence of termites, and the guy let us make payments!!! Great guy, and a great product!!!
