The people are not safe when the legislature is in session. No wonder they held the committee vote in secret.

I also read yesterday that a federal standards act has been introduced into legislation, that would mandate all states to have computer chips in the drivers licenses that they issue. They would also be required to be hooked into a network for information exchange. Probably via Internet. Also some kind of bio marker such as a fingerprint would be required for issue, and be on the license.

There was also the possibility of having other chips in the licenses so that bank cards or credit cards, etc. could also be contained within the one card.

Another Big Brother intrusion it looks like to me.

Read and heard that in Seattle they now accept index finger scans to make grocery purchases at Thriftway Stores. You have to pre-regiser the information to set up the account.

I'm leaving. I hope.

Gawd, it's depressing.

Most states have had magnetic tape strips on driver licenses for several years. They can fit quite a lot of information in them. Almost all states digitize your license picture to use it with facial recognition software. California fingerprints you when you're issued a drivers license. I'd expect other states to follow that soon.

Fingerprint scanners are being used more and more. You can buy one for under $50 now to use with a home security system or to prevent unauthorized use of your computer.

I'm sure that legislation will ease right through congress under the guise of protecting us.

I take a magnet and swipe it over that magnetic strip and clear it off! If thay put a chip in I will cook the booger with a hot shot or a coil on a car!

we need to really watch all this as the powers that be try to take away more and more of our privacy and our individual rights. I am interviewing 24 candidates that are running for office in our county and I have been so impressed with the Libertarian candidates and their ideas. The national Libertarian web site is www.lp.org

BACKWOODS HOME magazine also has some good editorials and articles and you can find a lot of them on their web site

Where was this LAND RIGHTS group when Congress signed into law the Telecommunications Act of 1996?

Where was this group when Congress recently voted to allow energy companies the SAME rights as the telecommunications industry?

Apparently these Land Rights groups, while is something we should always watch to protect our rights, certainly seems to be more of a partisian group than a land rights group.

In otherwords...its ok as long as a Republican Congress votes for it??

You as a citizen landowner are still out!!

Your government is for big business...PERIOD...get used to it.
