Pioneermaid wood stoves

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We are planning to build an earthship and thought we'd cook/heat with the Pioneermaid kitchen type wood stove. Tried to find that stove on "ask jeeves" but came up empty. Does anyone out there have one? Understand they are made in Canada..anyone have a used one for sale. Thanks. Layne

I believe there is going to be one for sale tomorrow at an auction in Heuvelton, NY. Bob Chambers is the one having the sale, Willis Shattuck is the auctioneer. Bob has a Heuvelton phone number (315) 344- ???? You could call him and see for sure. I left my auction listing at home otherwise I could give you more info. Sorry

I bought my Pioneer Maid through Lehmans. I got mine in late 1998 and it is beautiful. It was truck shipped to our local roadway depot. Yes, they are made by Amish farmers in Canada. My latest catalog from Lehmans still lists them. It took about 3 mos to get it since they seem to be made to order. I ordered mine with the 11 gal stainless steel water resevoir & warming oven. I'd looked at alot of styles & brands and am so glad I chose the Pioneer Maid; it will bake up to 8 loaves of bread at once, plus heat a 2000sq ft house!! Try www.lehmans.com or do a search for their address to request a catalog. Good Luck & I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Blessings, Kathy

I got one from Lehman's in l999. As far as I know they still carry them. They hold lots of wood--big pieces--and it holds a fire all night long. I too have the water tank and warming oven. I love the warming oven, I use it all winter. My husband installed a spigot on the water tank so I can just "turn on" the hot water and then I just refill the reservoir from the top. It isn't as beautiful as some of the other stoves, but I'd highly recommend it. Ours was also sent to the nearest truck dock for pick up. It was very heavy, so I'd recommend help in getting it loaded and into your home and in place. After that you just put it together (it is in a few sections) and it is ready to go!

I visited the shop where theese stoves are made in Aylmer,Ont. Canada. It is a very impressive operation.Theese stoves are very well made,by folks who use them year round, for cooking and heating. The shop,as I recall ,had no electric, the tools were run by motors, air, and a lot of hard working Amish.

How did they get pressurized air without an electric compressor ? What motor runs without electricity ? I admit the Amish, that run Amana fridges, live in homes that have no electric but their plants are state of the art computer manufacturing centers.

My wife and I got our Pioneer Maid three years ago and we love it. It has paid for it self. Our natural gas prices have been high the last few years. We cook and heat our home with it. It only took us a week to have our delivered to us from Canade. Gerry had one on hand and put it on a truck the same day. Happy Future, Jim

Thanks all for the info. We checked out the Lemann website & they are now over $2000 for "the works" which is what we want, so I guess we will be saving while we are building the "ship". Thanks again. Layne
