White spot on my goat's ear

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I noticed a weird white spot on my goats ear the other day and I have been watching it and it hasn't grown but it looks like some sort of fungus. It's about half the size of a dime, I was wondering if anyone knew how to treat it. Thanks

Ringworm perhaps?

If the skin looks dry and flaky and the hair rubs out of this little white spot, it is probably a fungus. Washing with medicated soap and a little vinegar will clear up mild cases. If it spreads, get some rose fungacide called Captan, dilute a very little in some water and dab on the spot. We used Captan on a colt that had lost about a third of his hair coat to ringworm. The vet recommended it instead of $200 worth of pills.

Did the goat get into some lime perhaps? A chemical burn, seen lots of times on Nubians who get their ears wet while drinking than lay in a freshly limed barn. Vicki
