Does anyone eat or drink aloe vera? Details please.

I got a great big aloe plant for 3 bucks at an auction. I could get about 25 cuttings from it, I think. Am wanting to know what you use it for, other than burns & stuff.

I have used it on my skin, and it does well enough. However, it is *BITTER* and I cannot imagine anyone getting it in their mouths on purpose!

I drink it sometimes mixed with other juices, about 20% of the mix. I wouldn't think 100% aloe juice would be harmful to drink but it might mess with your digestion a bit getting used to it. There's quite a few 'sports' drinks out now with aloe in them.

Sometimes people drink the clear pure juice. I think mostly for colon problems. Sells at GNC. Maybe they'd know.

I have read, in an exhaustive book about aloe vera, that the skin of the plant has stronger healing powers. It is sometimes eaten, however, a pregnant woman should NOT eat it, if I recall correctly, it can make her bleed or even miscarry.

While I've never actually eaten the raw plant, I take gel caps I get at the health food store to aid my digestive tract - they dont' taste too bad and hardly repeat. Sister in law drinks the juice, but she buys it processed. Otherwise, just use it on burns around here.
