Transitioning from non-profit to private- how?!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : What keeps you up at night? : One Thread

I have worked my entire professional life in non-profits like the Department of Mental Health, the criminal justice system, and hospitals. I'm a therapist, who suddenly found herself in a management role for 3 years and I love it! I'm working on my degree, MAOM, and want to leave the non-profit world to take a stab at the private sector. Not sure what field yet, but I plan on returning to the non-profit sector after I broaden my base. I want to lead, and manage well, in any capacity. I have no idea how to transition, and learn the different set of rules required. Am I marketable at all in the private sector???

It sounds to me like you're quite marketable. If you're still interested in working as a therapist, I would look into the independent school settings - there are a lot more independent schools than you'd think, and they will appreciate how your experience will translate into their setting. The best website to begin this look is the home of the National Association of Independent Schools, www.nais.org. Good luck to you in your search!
