Thats the internet, a worldwide public bullitin board. I hear many of the same voices complaining about restriction of free speach, having their postings accesible as you describe and the loss of all the free services. Reminds sort of the analogy we had in manufacturing, "Good, Fast or Cheap, you may choose only two, except here on the 'net its fast, indespensible and public, you have no choice.

I found that some of the search engines can even give read access to postings from lusenet forums that have chosen to password protect their boards. While no one can access the sites to post against threads, those threads can be read.

Freedom of speech does not equal privacy of speech.

.... and.... you always have the option to create an alias in Hotmail or Yahoo.

Yahoo is a search engine that searches web sites. The same issues applies to google, teoma and the thousands of other search engines.Your using a web site to post your messages. so Your messages will end up on yahoo, and yes include your email addresses. This is not specific to this site, however this site could put a robot.txt file on the web site to ask search engines not to stop here, but that defeats the reason to have a search engine to find info.

If you use most any other web based fourm, system you have a chance of being put in an engine.

One of those rules of posting on internet, do not use your regular email address nor your real name. If you want to be contacted go get a real but throw away address so if you do start getting spammed or stalked, you can abandon it. Oh, when you sign up for free email (or anything else "free" on internet), dont give your real name or mailing address unless you want spam and even more junk snail mail. Many email outfits sell this info and they dont care who they sell it to. Oddly posting on Countryside or BWH or Almanack or any other alternative rural lifestyle board has never gotten me any spam or even a nasty letter. I have even opportuned to electronically albeit briefly meet some rather nice people, at least one of which has become regular email-pal.

Now you know why some people use fake addys. It isn't necessarily to dodge and hide from the other posters here.

Exactly--I don't use a fake address to avoid the people on this site, but to avoid the nuts out there who like to send porn spam and viruses.
