I don't think I'm really that crazy! I swear that a few days ago that someone posted either a site or recipes for homemade chicken/chick food. I have searched the site and the old posts but can't find it. Maybe it was a dream? Help! Could it be in the new CS magizine? I don't think so!

Can someone let me know if I invented this. I'm about to leave to get some chicks and I will buy comercial feed but if I can make my own or have it mixed I would rather. I'm looking for something with NO animal proteins, and no chemical/antibiotic additives. These are chickens for eggs only and will free range when they are older.

It was here a few days ago, I'm not sure where it is now. We use soyabean meal for the protein instead of animal products and our hens lay an egg a day each even throughout the winter.

Thanks everyone for your help. I must have too much going on in my life or at least my head. Got the chicks today and they are snug and happy in their coup. Susan.banks I would be interested in hearing more about the soybeans and anyother things you do for feeding your chickens. Maybe others would be too!

Colorado State has a two page pdf file at http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/livestk/02504.pdf that gives a simple way to figure the final mixture of two different feed sources, using a Pearson's Square. It is pretty handy.
