Take a hammer and pound on it until it is a powder, vacuum real well. When you can't see anything else to vacuum get a bowl of water with vinegar, take some dish soap and rub a little into the spot then rinse with the vinegar water. To rinse, pour a little on the spot then blot with a dry towel and repeat until you think you have it all up. Don't wet it until you have vacuumed because you will end up spreading it around more. Have fun!

What a good idea Kim. The only other thing is a product called Nature's Miricle that works great to "eat" wastes. It' is a natural enzyme that will take care of anything left behind, wet spots too.

If you wash it and it still leaves a stain, try sprinkling a thin layer of sugar on it while it is still wet. Work it into the stain with a brush or a rag and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Wash that up with a rag rung out in clean water, rinsing and dabbing until you are satisfied that the sugar is out. Blot dry. I don't know why this works on stains, but it does. It gets out grass, blood, coffee, and chocolate stains, too.

After you have it up, you might want to put a small amount of ammonia down on the area. I have been told that the ammonia will eliminate any trace of the smell so that even the animal (cat, dog, whatever) will not be able to tell where they had "gone" before and so won't continue going back to the same spot and using it for a litter box!

Christine is right, we use ammonia to diswade our cats from scratching the furniture, and other behavioral problems. Works like a charm....

I would try Simple Solution for Cats on it. It is an enzyme that neutralizes the odor and generally removes the stains as well. It is a liquid so I would soak the area with Simple Solution for Cats then soak a paper towel with it and cover the stain with the towel. If there is a lot of poop I would remove it after it has loosened up and reapply the SS.

We moved into an old farm house 2 years ago where the previous non- human residents had included about 15 barn cats. There were many litter boxes in the house, but not enough to deal with that many cats. Simple Solution for Cats really made a big difference in a short period of time.

Please note that I keep saying "Simple Solution for Cats" because they have more than one formula. We had used the regular formula when we our dog was a puppy, but got the cat formula for dealing with the house.
