Does anyone know how to tighten belts on a troy built rear tine. I assume their loose. Tines stop when they start to sink in the soil. Thanks. I don't have a manual.

If it is a newer Troy Built than either the belt is slipping or the pins in the tine shaft are sheared. either way it is a cheap fix. If it is an older Troy built you may have an additional problem in the gear box, but not likely.

Troy Built went bankrupt in 2000. The new ones are MTD's with the Troy built decals which IMHO is fraud.

Are you tilling sod? If so, it won't go very deep. If you try to go to Deep or fast it Will hang up. there is a way to slow the wheels down, so it will do a better job.

Tom, A common problem with Troybilts (had them 25+ years, on my second) after a winter of disuse. The drive belt gets stiff and tends to glaze if you've had it a year or two. If you've come to the end of the limited tension adjustment, it's time for a new one. Installing it is a bit of a rectal trauma, especially if you have big hands, but here's a tip that will save you a lot of money: take the old one to an auto parts store and get a fan belt, slightly smaller - for half the price.

This is just a thought, BUT I had a tiller that had what is called shear pins and these would break so as to not hurt something big on the tiller. The tines might turn while off the ground but not turn when in the ground because these shear pins transfer the power to the tines. All the best and let me know if you need more info Ed
