Hello,I seen a thread in the archives about these 'Kosher King cockerel' chickens for meat,and am wondering how they compare to cornish x.Do their breasts (meat) get as big as the cornish?.It would'nt really matter to me,since I am the only one that eats the dark meat in the family,so we basically need a big breasted chicken.Their sure is no info on the web about this breed,and I will be calling the hatchery that sells them ,but am looking for those who haved raised them in the past.Thanks in advance.Dave (central WI)

I just received a brochure from Noll's Poultry Farm. They have the Kosher King broilers. The brochure says they are a colored bird that resembles a Barred Rock with better tasting meat than the Cornish Cross. It has a very low incidence of leg problems or heart attack. Flocks should average 5# at 8-9 weeks. I don't know if this is a good price in your area but it sure seems to be for KY: Straight Run- $50.00/100 Cockerals- $35.00/100 Shipping is extra & I've listed the shipping cost for 100 chicks for the zones Zone 1-3 $8.00 Zone 4 $10.40 Zone 5 $11.80 Zone 6 $14.05 Zone 7 $15.50 Zone 8 $19.10

Dave, I know you were looking into the Kosher Kings, that's why I sent another place that carried them in case you did decide to raise them. Sometimes prices in different areas can be very different. I forgot to say Nolls says they are a Pullorum Typhoid Clean inspected facility. They're Amish/Mennonite owned All I know is the Cornish Cross grow super fast & eat incredible amounts. In my opinion the flavor wasn't as 'chickeny' as all the other breeds I've raised. I raised 109 and at exactly 6 weeks they weighed between 4.75 & 6.2 #, I don't think they had time to develop any flavor. Of course that's just my opinion. Peace,Kathy
