We need plans for building one wooden cow stanchion

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Our Gelbvieh cows give too much milk for the newborn calves to consume. They are easy to handle - but (rather than steal a few pulls between bites of hay) we'd like to have a feeding stanchion that we could lock their heads in while we milk the overloaded quarters. Does anyone have a drawing that they could fax to us, that shows how to build an easy to assemble free standing stanchion? Thanks.

Might look at: North Dakota State Univ. , http://www.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu/abeng/plans/DAIRY.htm or www.cps.gov.on.ca/english/plans/E2000/2823/2823L.pdf

See if your library has a (great) book called Build It Better Yourself. There are plans for stanchions (and a lot of other things) in the book.
