Glass gasket problem on Century stove door

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

The gasket that holds in the glass on the inside of my stove door is coming off. Do I glue it back on and if so, what type of glue is recommended? If I try to just put it back it doesn't stay in. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Sandee

Go to the hardware store there is a special glue that you use to put the gasket back on with you can also buy new gaskets there we replace ours about every other year good luck. Ronda

Hi Sandee,

Lehman's sells stove gasket cement. This can be used to glue gaskets, tiles, and repair firebrick. In their catalog it is $4.14. Their website is www.lehmans.com or call 1-877-438-5346.

You could probably check at your local hardware store or even a store that specializes in woodstoves.

I've also used auto exhaust cement, basically the same thing. Comes in a tube for a few dollars most anywhere they sell auto suppies.

I'm not sure about your brand of stove Sandra. It depends on what holds the glass on. On most stoves , the glass is held on with some sort of bracket and the gasket is held in place with the pressure of the glass. It could be that whatever holds the glass in place became loose or the gasket deteriorated. Door gaskets usually require gasket cement but I haven't seen too many glass panels requiring cement although your stove may be different. Be careful when you reinstall the glass. Tighten whatever holds it in evenly and don't overtighten. It easy to crack the glass if you do . good luck jz
