patterns/homemade undergarments

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anyone have a site or company that has patterns for homemade underwear for women, I don't do well sewing with the knit products, so I guess I can use what they used to, domestic, cotton, or muslim. I'm so tired of these store bought things that don't last long! I can probably make my own crude pattern, but it would help if I just had a picture to look at, I was thinking briefs, with thin elastic at the waist and legs, I don't wear tight fitting clothing so any wrinkles won't be a problem. Does anyone else make their own? I've been making and using my own menstral pads for 3 years now, so this is just a next step for me. Why not! !

Carol, If you don't have any luck here, you might try posting on the Cooking and Crafts forum over on Lusenet. There are some pretty talented ladies over there. Best wishes!

Carol, I have a Simplicity pattern for baby doll pajamas and the bottoms are just what you described. I can cut out and send you the bottom pattern if you'd like. I know I won't be using it. It's for a misses size small (10-12) but it would probably be really easy to make adjustments to, if necessary.

Simplicity and McCalls both had patterns years ago. Might try asking for copies of the patterns. Also StretchNSew had them too. I used to make all my own until I got lazy...

There's a book by Karen Morris. Title is Sewing Lingerie that Fits. publisher is Taunton Press. In it are instructions for making custom fit panties. It also includes sections on copying your favorite store-bought bras and creating patterns by copying from other pieces clothing such as camisoles and half slips.

i just picked up this book not to long ago and haven't tried making anything yet, but it looks fairly easy. Perhaps you can find a copy at your local library.
