Here is some great PBS shows regarding the materialistic nature of life today: Web link at:

http://www.pbs.org/kcts/affluenza

From the web site: "Af-flu-en-za n. 1. The bloated, sluggish and unfulfilled feeling that results from efforts to keep up with the Joneses. 2. An epidemic of stress, overwork, waste and indebtedness caused by dogged pursuit of the American Dream. 3. An unsustainable addiction to economic growth. 4. A television program that could change your life."

"Affluenza is a one-hour television special that explores the high social and environmental costs of materialism and overconsumption. Here you can learn more about the show, get an Affluenza diagnosis and check out resources for treatment. Don't miss our Teacher's Guide, available only on this Web site."

"Escape from Affluenza is the solution-oriented sequel to Affluenza. Hosted by Wanda Urbanska, co-author of Simple Living, Escape picks up where Affluenza left off by profiling people and organizations that are reducing consumption and waste, choosing work that reflects their values and working to live in better balance with the environment."

I do not get PBS, have a TV tuck in a corner in an upstain bedroom, but do have a VCR with it. I wonder if you can get a tape of this somewhere. Does PBS ever sell tapes. Debbie

Check if your local library has it. Ours stocks most PBS videos. You can also purchase it at www.simpleliving.org--Alternatives for Simple Living. Although it's $30 a piece. Ouch! We just taped it off the tv when it ran several years ago....thankfully.

With my neighbors trying to outdo my garden, do I have to change my name to "Jones"? :>)

We showed this to our Girl Scout troop (although it's kinda hokey for teenagers). My co-leader borrowed it from her church. You might also check at your library -- ours has a growing video collection.
