Is there a test for CL?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi, all. I'm in a dither. For several months a pet LaMancha goat of mine had a lump on her neck. She's had 2 lumps before that went away (in a 5 year period). Well, this one burst during the busiest time in my life when I was in the big middle of selling my house and moving. IF she has CL, then my goat biz is shot, I know that. So, now. Is there a test, after the fact, to see if she is a carrier? When I told my vet about this (and he is familiar with farm livestock, not a small animal vet), he said it seemed to present like a staph infection. Oh, God, I hope so... Any info will help. Thanks in advance, debra in nm

You can test for CL, we test every yr for CAE and CL along with TB and Brucellosis. We jsut had our vet draw the blood and send it off. I am so sorry to hear you doe may have it. then again, maybe not, as not all lumps are CL. Good luck.
