Turkey shortage???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have been to quite a few turky shows lately. There seems to be an oversupply of ducks, geese, and some ornamental pheasants, but turkeys very few and the prices are high. A pair of breeders are often over $50.00. and there are very few available. Royal palms, Naragansettes, and Bronze seem to be the most poopular. Have any others had a similar experience. I can sell all the ringnecks I can raise as well as bobwhites, is it the same with turkeys???? (Cold up here in Wisc. no eggs yet)..John

I have Bourbon Red turkeys. I raise a few and sell them every year. I haven't noticed any shortage of them around here. But there aren't very many people that I know of that raise the "Bourbons". Mine have been laying for a couple of weeks now.

$50.00 for a pair of turkeys, here they are going for $105.00 a pair. We looked at some the other day and was shock to see what they have gone up to. Wish now we would have kept ours. Tracy

I've had difficulty finding turkeys too. Attwoods in Ft. Smith finally got in some newly hatched whites and burbons. I'm hoping to get some before they are all gone.

I go to poultry shows and there just seems to be very few turkeys for sale: especially Naragansettes, Royal palm, and some of the other exotic breeds. Just curious. Mosdt of the major hatcheries seem to have limited chicks as well. John Clark
