Insulated Concrete Panels

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Anyone familiar with actual construction using Insulated Concrete Panels? I would like to know what the costs are, just for the expanded polystyrene forms (EPS) and the plastic connectors that join them. I would like to build a cabin 24' square and so would like to know what it would cost to build this size..not the concrete and rebar...just the forms and connectors.

I visited a place in Austin, TX, that sells them, and also visited a large house being built with insulated concrete panles. I don't know what the cost is, but i was quite impressed with the product. I expect it will catch on.

John Do a search on the internet and you will end up with more info than you ever wanted. Polysteel seems to be the predominant builder around here in Okla. City. Contact several of the companies and ask them to give you a bid. The big klinker comes when you finish the structure: Doors, Windows, Roof.

i can't say much about the cost of them but there are a few contractors around here who just love them. most add a some 2x4s to give it more support till the concrete sets. but they seem to hold up real well. they even make one with a wider top so you can add a brick face to your building. but the outfit that i talked to at the home show uses them for there square bale construction. a square bale fits just right on top of it. i took concrete to one of the single lvl habitate for humanity homes that was made here in town. and i asked why they were using them on a home with no basement.and he swore that it will help keep the heating and cooling down by a bunch. sorry i can t give you no numbers but from what ive heard they are well worth the investment lol well reading it back i guess i really had nothing to say but since i took the time to type it im sending it Mike
