Too Much Junk Mail!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hello Folks,

In the last couple of days I have been receiving 40 to 50 junk emailing a day! I tried blocking them but, as I blocked on group, the next day I would receive another group. Finally out of desperation I changed my setting on my email to "Exclusive". This stopped it and now I only receive my from the addresses that are in my address book!

I noticed that others have had similar problems and thought that maybe if you did the same thing I did you could avoid this "headache".

Sincerely,

Ernest

Yes Ernest, for that reason I am seriously considering changing over and using my hotmail account. We don't have that on Yahoo, unless we do and I just can't find it. They have a junk mail category, but it doesn't come close to doing what the Hotmail does as far as address book.

You know, I have thought about this some more (imagine that ;>) ). This morning I went to my Yahoo account and found some really nice messages from people who think I have helped them on this forum. Those kind of pick me ups make it worth answering the same question many times for newbies etc. which is the only reason I stay here for the most part. The really funny thing is, I have a home account that a few people I thought were my friends have the address to. No support there..............so what does this tell me. I guess that I will put up with the spam so I can get cheered up when I am down by people who might even be too shy to post.

I am new to the internet. only since January. I only get e-mail from people I have given my address to. I have no idea why. Its nice though.

Yep, Ernest, I know the feeling. If you think you get the junk mail now, try being a forum administrator. Every wacko in every country finds you. That is why I use hotmail. It has a junk filter on it. Really helps cut down on the junk mail and with one click you can delete the whole junk mail folder and don't have to go through all those emails to delete them. Yahoo also has the same thing, but I really like hotmail better. By the way, they both have an automatic virus detector on them!

If your going to block email, you have to block on content. Blocking on email account and subject line is now pretty worthless. You have to block on the content in the body of the email.

I used to get alot, but I get alot less since I open the junk, go to the bottom, and take my name off of the lists. After A couple of days of this, I only get one here and there now.

Thanks Diane for not blocking emails. I have learned so much from this forum and appreciate it continuing.
