Home Design Software- Best/Easiest??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Have any of y'all got any recommendations on software for designing and building a house and barn? I've played with graph paper long enough! I've got a couple of different floor plans in mind that I'd like to toy with without drawing and redrawing which I really don't know how to do correctly. And most importantly, I'd like is to see what my creation would look like from the outside. Especially for the barn, I'd like to see what changes in window size, roof pitch, etc. do for the general appearance. I'm also going to build a very small apt. off the side of the barn to live in while we build the house and I'd like to see how it looks in various sizes, and placements on the barn.

Broderbund has one for about $40, and I remember seeing another called 3-D Architect(?-can't remember and Office Depot wasn't open at 7am when I got off work) for about $65- with a few more features. I need something that is suitable for the technologically impaired- LOL- because I am far from computer literate! Suggestions anyone???

It was difficult to find reviews on this sort of software, I was looking for the same thing a few months ago. But from what I read, this company is highly-recommended:
