Angela, start with your state's board of registration. If the horse came from another state, then check with that state.

Angela, you might try sending a copy of the brand to the AQHA. They have a record of all the brands used on the Quarter Horses registered with them. Their address is AQHA p.o.box 200, Amarillo, TX 79168. Best of luck!

Have you asked the folks you bought him from where they got him? Sometimes you have to track people down. Contact your state's brand inspection office and see if they have an owner for that brand. Also, contact the American Quarter Horse Assc. You might also try some of the other breed registries. Plain colored Paints and Appaloosas can look just like a Quarter Horse.

I have an appy mare that I got at age 6. She had never been registered, but was from registered parents. Luckily I was told the name of her sire/dam and was able to track their owner down. She had since gotten out of breeding, sold the dam, and the sire was a gelding, but she remembered my mare as a filly and agreed to sign all the forms for me. My mare finally got her papers at the ripe old age of 18!
