Has anyone used Electro-Braid fencing for horses?Is it just cheaper to use electric wire? Are there any problems with the fence? Please let me know. Edie

I've used it with great success. It is the easiest fence to put up imaginable. Like stringin' a rope!

It is also much safer for the horses than electric wire, or most other fencing, and it is supposed to last 25 years or more. I've been very happy with it.

It sure isn't cheaper, but I love it- had it up for about 4 years now. Super easy to put up, and the horses really respect it, even the young ones. Premier fence has a rope electric fence that's alot cheaper, but it's made of poly, not nylon. I think I'll try that for some cross fencing. For more commentary on Electro-braid, do a search at this site http://forum.horsemans.net/ also try spelling it electrobraid. There have been at least 2 or 3 threads on the subject.

We use it for an area that doesn't have a regular fence. After having horses go through regular electric fence wire several times because they couldn't see it, we switched to this and have never once had them go through it. We left it up this winter and it is wintering just fine as well.

Maybe I just didn't get the quality stuff. Mine was wrecked by the wind and sun in a year. It didn't seem to keep my horses in any better than smooth wire, either. Just my opinion.

I have what is called "super rope" very simmilar put less expensive.This will be our 5 th year and it is hoding up well. You do have to walk the fence and tighten from time to time but that is normal maintance for any fence. Never had a horse go through it and have even had a 2 day out filly in it, whith her dam.

I'm fairly certain that you didn't have Electro-braid brand, Malinda. Just curious, where are you located? I also have poly-wire- the really cheap thin stuff- in various pastures for cross fence and after better than 5 years it's still in decent condition and zapping away.

I'm in North-Central WI. The stuff I bought was from Fleet Farm. We tried the yellow tape and the orange rope. For the tape you also needed the special insulators that were wide enough. The wind seemed to really catch the tape and by it rubbing on the insulator, all the small wires in it broke. The rope did last a little longer, but eventually the sun broke down the plastic and it just fell apart.

I love electro-braid fence. I think you can only get it from the manufacturer. My horses and goats respect it with no problems. I have had a tree fall across the fence and bend all of the lines to the ground. We cut the tree off with a chain saw, and the fence popped right up into place with no repairs needed. I think it is cheaper in the long run to put up. The company says you can space your posts 100' apart. I put mine 50', and I have no sagging or tightening nedded. using less posts saves alot of money and labor for installation. Chris in MD

Wow! I just came here to ask the same question! The man I work for has this, and he has lots of small paddocks with it. He swears by it, It is pretty expensive though, but seems to be a great fence! I am just going to buy what he has left over and re-do my fence, because I dont need that much. He said he has only had one horse hurt in it, and the horse fell under it and somehow got a leg twisted in between two strands and it was shocking him. but he just turned to fence off, got the leg out, with no damge to the fence and only a scared horse. this guy has 7 stud horses, and no problems with the fence with mares all around.
