Can you sucessfully dehydrate lettuces for winter use??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Last year we dehydrated many garden items that were plentiful. I have always wondered if a person could utilize lettuce or any family members,ie... swiss chard and what valuable nutrients and vitamins would they have to offer in the winter by dehydration, even if it wasn't left in the best of shape, say maybe you could use them in soups. Anyone that has experience in such an undertaking?

I've never tried lettuce, but last night I tried out spinach and that turned out great. I plan to make some premade soup mixes with it. I dont see why you couldnt use lettuce in the same aspect. Do you have any other good drying recipes / ideas?

Jay - Are you saying you do dehydrate lettuce (I know I am challenged by written words). If so, what do you do with it? How would you prepare it etc. Actually this year we had luck keeping lettuce in our cold frame all winter. I just made a fresh spinach and lettuce salad for a friend and he couldn't believe I had grown it. Some winters I can'd do it but this year it worked.
