I built my barn with my own sawed lumber using board and batton method. Then I used CWF for an exterior finish made by the Flood Company. It comes in clear, cedartone, and redwood stains and is UV protective. If this works, you'll see a photo of it.

Clod it is beautiful. When we built our B & B home we looked at lots of preservative choices. In the end we decided on good overhangs and to let it weather to grey as it inevitably will. We didn't want to introduce any toxins and the upkeep is lower. Kim

Just beautiful! It is so easy these days just to put up a metal pole barn, good for utility, but not pretty to look at. Your barn is both gorgeous and utilitarian. Something to be truly proud of!

i am going to build my home with rough sawmill lumber. i have one place that ive bought from and another that im getting in touch with. i decided to do this, even though i will have to transport the lumber, because i bought nearly forty 2x6 and 2x8's x 14 foot for $75.00. being oak, white oak, and cedar made me feel it was a good idea. ive been working on my plans for the home, but i have a few questions too. is there somewhere i can find a good book on plans to build your own? im reading a "how to" build a passive solar home book now, yet it is too general on many of the methods of building.

by the way, since ive collected quite a bit of lumber already....is this practical or am i crazy? the lumber is "reject" b/c short on one side, bark showing, etc... but its in really good condition.

im still using some for treehouse, dock, summernight shelter, so i cant give up if it is futile.

thanks-

Here is a great book published in 1975 that tells you how to build a house out of green wood:

The Green Wood House, by Larry Michael Hackenberg

Look for a used copy on www.abebooks.com.
