my mom always told the story that when she was a little kid they had sheep and the would get their head stuck in the fence and it was her job to walk the fence in the evening and she would push there heads out cause they weren't smart enough to walk backwards.

Ross has got it. They prefer to watch where they're putting their feet, but they can sure go backwards if they perceive a need - like if they realise they're about to go through a doorway into a shed.

Mine sure can back up at shearing time and hoof trimming time. You'd be suprised at how fast the little buggers are!
